The Executive Director of the Africa Statistical Solutions (ASSO)
Zakayo Msokwa said Thursday in Dar es Salaam during a day’s seminar
organized by journalists in collaboration with the institution that
statistics records are crucial in the country’s decision making that
translates to its economic growth.
“ASSOS has resolved to engage journalists in statistical training
that will allow knowledge dissemination to the majority public” he said.
Msokwa said without proper statistics, various national matters
were going to be off the target saying this was evident with the lack of
implementation to various government development projects.
All the countries around the world depend on statistics for their planning and economic growth, he said.
The ASSO Boss also requested staticians in the country to ensure
they prepare timely statistical report that can be used in development
plans saying most of such reports in developing countries were not
always as successful as those prepared in developed countries like the
UK.
According to him, there were few such expatriates in the country failing to cater for the country’s need.
“Lack of statistics is an impediment to advance development. We
need them to help business people in their activities such as knowing
their market trends” he said.
He added, “Regional statistics even those conducted at district
level issued on monthly and yearly basis needs to be encouraged”.
