Judge Francis Mutungi’s call to ACT leadership was made Tuesday
this week through a letter with Ref. No HA322/362/20/40 among other
things directing the party to call off the national democratic congress
meeting which will among others elect new leaders saying such a move
might create insecurity and disorder in the party.
The expected March election follows the expulsion of three party
members for going against their constitution and holding back the
party’s democracy.
Expelled members included Chairman Kadawi Limbu, his deputy Leopold
Mahona and Grayson Nyakalungu who have been replaced by Chairman
Shabani Mambo Shaban, his deputy Masaga Mohamed and Hassan Abdalah.
Speaking to reporters at ACT office in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the
party’s Secretary Samson Mwigamba said their decision to expel its
leaders was right and cannot be cancelled.
Mwigamba said the decision was made by the central committee and
calling it off will mean cancelling the party’s elections expected for
March this year, which is against the party constitution.
“We cannot tolerate such members in our party because their views
go against the party’s manifesto and promoting of democracy” he said.
He said the Registrar proposal is contrary to the very same guidelines of the party’s registration requirements.
“We have also replied back to the Registrar’s office concerning the
party leadership changes, directing him to refer to our earlier demands
in the letter which had leadership change concerns”” he said.
He said the Registrar concerns that we postpone our elections till May this year is not welcomed.
According to him, the party has scheduled to conduct national
democratic congress March this year where among others will include
electing leaders as a preparation for the general elections in October
as well as the launching of the party.
“Our party does not have conflict. We also invite the three leaders
who were expelled from their pots to come and contest in the March
coming elections because they are still party members” he said.
